Germany has some of the strictest residential security standards in Europe. Most apartment leases require tenants to maintain DIN-certified locks, and insurance policies for household contents (Hausratversicherung) often mandate a minimum security class for the front door. As someone new to the country, understanding these requirements — and acting on them — can feel overwhelming without guidance in your language.
Our English-speaking team will walk you through exactly what your lease and insurer require, recommend the right lock for your situation, and fit it the same day. We work across every city and region in Germany and are familiar with the common lock types found in German apartment buildings, including the widely-used ABUS and BKS cylinder systems. No jargon, no upselling — just straightforward advice and fast, professional installation.

German building codes reference the European standard DIN EN 1627, which classifies doors and locks into resistance classes (Widerstandsklasse, WK or RC). An RC2 lock withstands five minutes of attack with a screwdriver and pliers — this is the minimum most home insurers require. RC3 provides additional resistance against power tools and is strongly recommended for ground-floor flats and houses.
Many older German apartments still have RC1 or even unrated cylinder locks, leaving residents unknowingly uninsured for burglary claims. Our technicians can assess your current setup, confirm whether it meets your insurer's requirements, and upgrade you to a certified RC2 or RC3 cylinder in a single visit. We stock cylinders from brands including ABUS, Wilka, and BKS — all with the required test mark and documentation your insurer may request.

Most German home contents insurers (Hausratversicherung) require at minimum a DIN EN 1627 resistance class RC2 (formerly WK2) cylinder on the front door. Some policies specify RC3 for ground-floor apartments. We can check your specific policy wording, recommend the right cylinder, and fit it with the documentation your insurer needs — all in one visit.
Absolutely. Changing the lock cylinder when you move into a new flat is highly recommended — previous tenants, letting agents, and tradespeople may all have copies of the old key. In Germany you are generally entitled to change the cylinder as long as you restore it before moving out. We will fit a new cylinder, provide you with the agreed number of keys, and can supply a copy for your landlord if required.
